Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. As a nutritional therapy consultant, I will use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to your symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows me to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health and well being. Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.
I consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. I will never recommend Nutritional Therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional.
What to expect from a Nutritional Therapy Consultation?
All nutritional therapy services begin with a complimentary consultation lasting around fifteen minutes. During this telephone or Skype call, I’ll learn a bit about you, your health concerns, and what goals you hope to accomplish by undertaking a nutritional therapy program. I’ll also share my experience and background with you to make sure that working together will be a good fit. I am selective with the clients that I work with, and if necessary, I may refer you onto a different practitioner. If we both decide that we would like to proceed with partnering together on your health journey, I will provide you with instructions and explain the process for doing so.
Before our first planned consultation, I will provide you with a health and nutrition questionnaire for to complete. An initial consultation typically lasts 60 minutes, and in this time I will ask detailed questions about current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and diet. I will then evaluate your individual needs and use the extensive evidence base for nutritional science to develop a personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme.
Tests & supplements may be recommended and this will be discussed at your initial consultation. I believe in collaboration with health providers. If you have a medical need, I suggest that a visit to your GP is priority before booking an appointment with me. I also recommend that you inform your GP that you intend to work with a Nutritional Therapist. Follow Up consultations consist of monitoring progress and to develop the programme further. Follow up frequency and quantity is determined between us based on your individual needs.
